MR XXX PRESENTS … THIS IS SOUL .. Disco .. Reggae

LISTEN TO MY JUKEBOX!

This Is Soul (Atlantic 643 301 - 2018, 50th Anniversary Expanded UK Edition) (1968)

This compilation album was originally released in the UK by Atlantic Records in 1968 and has been much loved by soul fans around the world for the past 50+ years.

This official 50th anniversary edition was released in 2018 and was expanded by 17 bonus tracks to make a 29 track album
with a running time of 79:18 CD length.

This Is Soul (Atlantic 8170 - 2018, 50th Anniversary Expanded US Edition) (1968)

This compilation album was originally released in the US by Atlantic Records in 1968 and has been much loved by soul fans around the world for the past 50+ years.

This was the US version of the original UK edition, which featured different cover artwork, along with a different tracklisting, although 3 songs did carry over from the UK version.

This particular edition has never been officially released on CD. Here is my own compilation featuring the original 12 tracks, plus a bonus 16 tracks have now been added which are all unique to the US edition,
all big hits for Atlantic recording artists and were released before and during 1968, the original album release date, creating an expanded 28 track album with a running time of 78:08 CD length.

Souled Out - 49 Original Hits - 49 Original Stars (K-tel NA 450 AUS - NE 508 UK - NU 9010 USA - TN 1161 NLD) (2021 Expanded Edition) (2CD) (1976)

Souled Out was issued by K-tel in four different counties over a period of four years. The series contained a great 10 year span of classic soul from 1966 to 1976.

The albums were released in Australia (1973), the UK (1974), the USA (1975) and in the Netherlands in (1976).

They each had different tracklistings.

For this 2021 remaster, I have selected the 49 very best tracks from all four versions for a special 2CD set.

Disc 1 comprises of 25 of the very best song selections with a running time of 79:08 CD length.

Disc 2 comprises of 24 of the very best song selections with a running time of 78:21 CD length.

Hit Fever - Original Hits - Original Stars (Arcade ADE G41 GER - ADE H36 NLD) (2021 Expanded Edition) (1978)

This album was originally released by Arcade in Germany and the Netherlands in 1978. They each had different tracklistings.

I've compiled this 2021 remaster to include the very best song selections from both versions, creating a 21 track compilation with a running time of 77:41 CD length.

Disco 75 (3CD) (2021)

FANTASTIC new 2021 compilation from Cherry Red. It really has the look and feel of a K-tel album from 1975!

A brand new series of releases devoted to the rise of Disco in the ‘70s, a genre which began when soul music became the most popular sub-genre of Rhythm & Blues within the African American culture in the USA, from where, the cult of the DJ emerged.

‘Disco 75’ features huge hits along with dancefloor essentials that changed the face of dance music mid-decade; including massive radio-friendly tunes from Shirley (And Company), The Jackson Five, KC and the Sunshine Band, Archie Bell and The Drells, The O’Jays, The Whispers, The Average White Band, Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, Disco-Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes and more.

Over three CDs and 55 tracks, Robinsongs has collected the most in demand records that sparked that initial interest in Disco around the world.

Designed by Michael Robson and mastered by Simon Murphy this is the definitive collection of the dancefloor sounds of 1975. The best of 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979 will follow.

The Best of Reggae - Original Stars - Original Hits (K-tel NE 498 UK) (2021 Doctor Bird Expanded Edition) (2CD) (1973)

It's great news that Cherry Red's Doctor Bird label recently released this best selling TV advertised album from the 70s on CD.
In fact, this is the very first time any K-tel, Ronco, Arcade, etc. TV advertised album from the 70s has ever been officially released on CD.

K-tel originally released 'The Best of Reggae' double album set in the UK in 1973.

Doctor Bird have expanded the original album to include a second disc of 27 bonus tracks, but unfortunately the original album is missing two;
'Wonderful World, Beautiful People' by Jimmy Cliff and 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' by Toots & the Maytals, plus the running order has been
changed in a few places. I have added the two missing songs.

Here is my fully restored original 30 track compilation with the correct running order on disc 1, plus the second Doctor Bird bonus disc of 27 tracks.
The second disc contains a few tracks which have never been released on CD before, so makes for a very interesting compilation.

• The 100 Greatest Disco Songs of All Time (9CD) (2019)

Compiled after exhaustive and extensive research, including the songs which feature most on the many, many lists of the best and greatest disco tracks online:

I've used all the original mixes here from the 70s and early 80s, 7" and 12" versions, no later remixes you often see appear on many CD compilations - basically the best and original versions of each song,
at the highest and best sounding quality recent remasters released to date.

Most official disco compilations out there contain many of the classics, but also feature a lot of junk too. Like my previous '100 greatest' collections, my goal was to include the very, very best of the genre,
the cream of the crop, and to add a number of tracks you never see on compilations due to licensing issues, etc.

Almost 11 hours of dancefloor classics!

• Amazulu - Amazulu (2021, 35th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) (3CD) (1986)

I spent months and months tracking down and purchasing many original 7" and 12" vinyl releases from around the world in order to put this collection together.

The original CD has been out of print for over 30 years, and reaches high prices on Discogs, eBay and the like. Many have been crying out for Cherry Pop to reissue it
with all the bonus tracks you will see included here, but unfortunately multiple requests have fallen on deaf ears. I'm not sure if it's a rights/royalties issue, or the fact that
they just can't track down all the original master tapes of the stand alone singles and 12" remixes.

Astonishingly, 36 bonus tracks have never been released on CD. I've now added these to the original album, spread across a 3 disc set.

To my knowledge every officially released version of each song based around the first album is included here.

Disc 1 includes the complete 1986 album ripped from my official original 1980s US Mango CD release.

Added to Disc 1 are a number of bonus 7" singles and B-sides.

Disc 2 features all 12" extended remixes.

Disc 3 features a 1984 concert Moonlight Romance: Live from the Camden Palace, London, November 23, 1984 ripped from the official VHS release.

• Sunny - Doctor's Orders (2019, 45th Anniversary Expanded Edition) (1974)

• Sunny - The Best of the Woman In Me (2019, 40th Anniversary Expanded Edition) (1979)

I've put together expanded editions of both Sunny albums, adding bonus 7" singles and B-sides. Not one track from these original albums apart from
'Doctor's Orders' her 1974 7" UK single and her 1979 UK single 'We Got Love' has ever been officially released on CD.

• Neneh Cherry - Greatest (Deluxe Edition) (2CD) (2020)

I thought it was about time I compiled a Neneh Cherry best of collection.

The fact that a 'greatest hits' compilation of her work has never been officially released is quite surprising.

I made a point of adding versions, tracks and mixes many have been complaining and moaning are missing on the recent 'Raw Like Sushi' 30th anniversary 3CD box set:

Some tracks were incredibly hard to find and or / have never been officially released on CD.

• Club Ska '67 (2020 Digital Remaster) (1967)
• Club Ska '67 - Vol. Two (2020 Digital Remaster) (1967)

• Intensified! Original Ska 1962-66 (2020 Digital Remaster) (1979)
• More Intensified! Original Ska 1963-67 - Vol. 2 (2020 Digital Remaster) (1980)

I was able to completely recompile Club Ska '67 from various high quality CD sources, I have in my library.

Also, I compiled Club Ska '67 Vol. Two, Intensified! Original Ska 1962-66, and More Intensified! Original Ska 1963-67 - Vol. 2again from CD sources.

I think when these original CDs were released around 1989/1990 Island/Mango didn't have access to the original master tapes and most tracks were ripped from vinyl or poor quality
third or fourth generation sources.

Over the past 30 years or so, many original master tapes have been discovered and meticulously remastered by the likes of Trojan, Treasure Isle, Universal, etc. for use on many of their reggae/ska compilations.

It's from these that I pulled the very latest, highest quality sounding remasters to recompile these four classic compilations.
