It was originally broadcast in 2006:https://list.fandom.com/wiki/VH1%27s_100_greatest_songs_of_the_80%27sWhoever put it together did a truly abysmal job. Many of the tracks were the incorrect versions: later re-recordings, cover versions (can you believe!), live versions as opposed to the original studio recordings, plus songs that didn't even represent what the tags said they were! Quite a few sound like they are bad, poor quality YouTube rips, and many sounded like they were recorded underwater, very low volume, flat and dull.I decided to take it upon myself to recompile this great compilation of classic 80s hits as voted for by VH1 viewers from my own high quality library of songs, including many hard to find original 7" single versions and radio edits as originally broadcast at the time, and were often featured on the official video versions as screened on MTV and VH1.6 1/2 hours of classic 80s!••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••VH1: 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s compilation which was based solely on the US singles charts and the most popular songs MTV and VH1 were playing on their stations.• Classic Pop Magazine Presents: The Top 100 Singles of the 1980s (Readers Poll - January 2014) (7CD) (2020), which was voted for by readers in January 2014. Being a UK based music magazine, the songs to receive the most votes were based on what was being played on UK radio and TV, in particular BBC Radio 1 and Top of the Pops. So to confirm, the VH1 comp is from an American perspective, and the Classic Pop poll is from a British perspective.Quite a considerable difference between the US and UK radio stations. In the US they tended to focus more on rock, power ballads and big hair bands, whereas the UK tended to play more synthpop, early indie like The Smiths and Echo & the Bunnymen and lots of great pop.I made a point of adding many original UK 7" single mixes, some of which are really hard to find, rather than album versions which you often see appear on the thousands of80s CD compilations you see hogging up the shelves, to make the compilation more authentic and have it coming from a UK point of view.I have enclosed a PDF file of the original magazine issue from January 2014 in the artwork folder, so you can read up on the history of each single. The compilers listed another 24 tracks as 'bubbling under' which didn't quite made the Top 100 list, so I've also added those as an extra bonus making it a 7CD set.••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Classic Rock Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Rock Songs (7CD) (2020)ONE HUNDRED HEAD BANGIN' CLASSICS!Britain's Classic Rock Magazine released a special issue dedicated to the 100 Greatest Rock Songs voted for on Facebook and Twitter by the PEOPLE!I decided to take it upon myself to compile this truly superb list with the actual songs.A FANTASTIC LOUD collection of so many blistering classics that you just never see on most of run of the mill 'rock' compilations clogging up the shelves in HMV and the like.Compiled from the very latest digital remasters and super deluxe editions for the very best sound quality. All original studio versions, no re-recordings or bootleg live versions here!Over 8 1/2 hours of roaring rock!I've also included a PDF file of the original magazine issue full of fascinating information and background history on each track in the artwork folder.Hope you enjoy and don't forget to crank it up LOUD!••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• MOJO Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Motown Tracks (Experts Poll - February 2009) (5CD) (2020)Continuing on with my Top 100 lists from Britain's best music magazines over the past few years...I thought I'd take a stab at MOJO Magazine: The 100 Greatest Motown Tracks (Experts Poll - from February 2009).I made absolutely certain to feature all the original hit single 7" 45 versions in the glorious original mono mixes, until stereo became the norm in the early 70s.I added 10 additional tracks as an extra special bonus, the tracks I think should have been included in the Top 100. Brought everything up to a nice even 22 tracks per disc. Most officially released Motown CD compilations feature the much inferior stereo album mixes of songs, and not the far superior original 7" mono single mixes.I think you'll agree, the original mono single mixes sound a million times better than the 'fake' stereo album versions.I honestly don't think you'll find a better Motown collection anywhere with this kind of quality and 110 massive hits found here.••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Q Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time (6CD) (2020)• Q Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Songs Ever! (7CD) (2020)Following the sad demise of Britain's much loved Q magazine with the final issue Q415 being released on July 28th, 2020:I decided to take it upon myself to compile 200 songs from two of their greatest issues:The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time (February 1999 issue) and The 100 Greatest Songs Ever! (October 2006 issue).••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••After compiling the Q lists, I thought I'd take a stab at MOJO Magazine's 100 Greatest Singles of All Time. The MOJO lists feature many different tracks to the Q lists. Two polls were taken in 1997, an industry experts poll :MOJO Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time (Experts Poll - August 1997) (6CD) (2020)Compiled by MOJO magazine from top 10 lists supplied by over 100 artists, producers and music industry personalities worldwide.
The 100 greatest singles were voted for by the experts listed on the inside cover of the August 1997 - issue 45. Songs not available on 45s in the UK were disqualified.and a follow up readers poll:MOJO Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time (Readers Poll - December 1997) (5CD) (2020)In addition to the Top 100 in the experts poll, 32 additional singles were listed as 'bubbling under', so I decided to add these as a bonus.••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The 100 Greatest Reggae Songs of All Time (2020 Super Deluxe Edition) (7CD) (2020)• I decided to take another look at my 100 Greatest Reggae Songs of All-Time compilation from 2017.I was never 100% satisfied with it and thought over the past couple of years it could be much improved. After considerableresearch and scrolling over lists and lists online of the best reggae songs ever made, voted for on many forums, I decided to remove a few tracks, and add some better ones, based on the comments and praise online, plus my own recollections from listening to all the great reggae John Peel used to play.I was also able to replace a few tracks with some better quality sounding rips than I had previously, plus add a number ofgreat instrumental dub versions of the A-sides which often appeared on the B-sides of the original 7" singles.I'm really happy with the final outcome, and it was definitely worth a second look to improve the overall collection.I also redesigned the cover artwork to read the '100' more clearly across the top, and replaced a few record labels with a number of cooler, much more interesting vintage reggae 45 designs.••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The 100 Greatest Soul Songs of the 60s & 70s (Super Deluxe Edition) (5CD) (2020)• The 125 Greatest Funk Songs of All Time (Super Deluxe Edition) (9CD) (2020)I decided to revisit my funk and soul compilations as I felt I could improve on them somewhat by adding and subtracting a few songs, plusadding several better sounding remasters I've acquired since I put these together about 18 months ago.I wasn't 100% satisfied with them last year and felt they needed a second look. I'm much happier with these final selections after a lot moreextensive research and study into the absolute best of each genre according to many many lists, votes and online discussions.I also expanded the funk collection from 100 tracks to 125 tracks, now making it a 9CD length set with over 11 hours of music.Updated, cleaned up and revised artwork covers too!••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The 100 Greatest Northern Soul Floorshakers in the World... Ever! (4CD) (2019)This compilation features the very, very best Northern Soul tracks ever released.Highly influenced and inspired by Kev Roberts list:plus a number of others, including The Guardian article with many, many responses from Northern Soul experts and fans on the records they think matter most:I agree with about 90% of his list, but there are definitely a few others I would have included, as mentioned by many posters, so I did substitute a few tracks which also feature in a numberof other lists, I think making it an overall better Top 100.A number of tracks have never been officially released on CD, due to their rarity and scarcity values, so there are a few vinyl rips included as these are all that exist,as the records are so rare and impossible to find, and if you're lucky will appear on eBay, selling for thousands of £££!There are tons and tons of Northern Soul compilations out there, but there is nothing that comes close to this Top 100. I don't think you'll find a better compilation of this music anywhere.••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The Northern Soul Top 100 Bubbling Under (21st Anniversary, 2021 Remastered Edition) (4CD) (2000)As the follow up to Kev Roberts' Northern Soul Top 500, he also listed 100 records as 'bubbling under' in his book:“Every Soul Boy & Girl has their favourite sounds, I’m sure that as you read the Top 500 that you were surprised not to see a record that is particularly close to your own heart.I have my own personal favourites many of which didn’t make it either, however you may well find it in this list of 100 spins that nearly made the chart…”To my knowledge the top 100 bubbling under tracks have never been compiled before by anyone and posted online. Here is my collection compiled using the very latest and best sounding remasters released to date, from my own CD collection,Amazon, iTunes digital downloads, etc.So many rare records here. It's amazing that even though these 100 tracks are bubbling under the top 500, there are so many GREAT Northern Soulfloor-shakers here.Hope you enjoy all these newly updated collections .......
