After listening to this set recently, I felt like my previous 200 greatest R&B/classic soul compilation deserved a second look.

The original set was highly influenced by this list on Digital Dream Door, but as usual with their lists, there were a few tracks I really didn't agree with:

Even though I'd included 200 tracks in my original collection, I felt there were still quite a few classics left off.

Also, when revisiting, I discovered a number of tracks were leaning more towards funk, and not strictly R&B/soul.

I decided to edit out the more funk based tracks and add some R&B/classic soul songs in their place, and whilst doing so, add a few more tracks to the collection,

now increasing it to 250 as a 10CD box set.

I'm much happier with this overall better selection, with a tighter focus on R&B/soul, 

and I hope you enjoy listening to it too!

I felt it about time this one and only 1978 classic album by Althea & Donna 

got my deluxe (better than Cherry Red error prone) treatment - ha ha!

I was able to compile a 2CD set with an additional 16 bonus tracks on disc 2, 

collecting together their entire recorded output from 1977 and 1978.

It also includes related reggae riddims from various artists that were used 

and incorporated on 'Uptown Top Ranking'.

This collection of rare tracks (As, Bs, 12" versions, etc.) 

has never been compiled anywhere and is completely exclusive to this set.

This is the YET ANOTHER MADE UP VERSION ..

THE  proper original release apparently still not shared ??

I think the previous one I had here was a 

“made up” one the official release … 

so it appears is this one !!!

I was so excited when this 4CD set arrived on Friday night.

But my excitement soon turned into dismay and upset when I 

discovered there were so many track errors.

A number of tracks are the different, often later 

re-recorded album recordings, 

and not the original hit single 7” 45 versions. 

Plus, some of the tracks have the beginnings clipped off, 

which is really annoying and very bad mastering.

A really poor job overall by the NOW team.

However, the music makes up for it and it's a really GREAT overview of the late 70s / early 80s UK punk and new wave scene.

I spent some time today to go through and fix and replace all the errors 

with the correct versions, plus while doing so add a couple of 

bonus tracks to the end of each CD, classic punk/new wave songs 

I think should have been included in the first place.

I mean how can you have a punk compilation without the Sex Pistols?!

I had to edit several beginning and end themes together, but it was well worth it in the end. 

I’m really pleased with the way it turned out. 

Audacity has been a godsend in editing this collection!

New Wave (Vertigo 6300 902 UK) (2022, 45th Anniversary Remastered Expanded Edition) (1977)

This fondly remembered and much sought after Vertigo compilation album from 1977 has never been released on CD.

It was originally released on vinyl and cassette in multiple countries: the UK, France, Germany, Greece,

the Netherlands, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Mexico and Japan. Many countries featured slightly

different tracklistings to the original UK version.

The original UK edition featured 16 classic New Wave tracks.

This special 2022 45th anniversary expanded edition features an additional 9 bonus tracks taken from the various editions released around the world.

It now includes every track from every version making a 25 track compilation with a new CD running time of 76:12.

20 of Another Kind (Polydor POLS 1006 UK) (2022 Remastered Expanded Edition) (1978)

20 of Another Kind is a UK 20-track punk and new wave compilation LP originally first released in Ireland by Polydor in 1978, and then in the rest of the UK in February 1979. 

It includes an otherwise unreleased studio version of 'Killing an Arab' by The Cure. The vocal track & some instrumental parts are different and it predates the album version with a production that is rougher and more basic. The sleeve dates the song from 1978 and states 'Eighteen Age Records' instead of 'Fiction' and it is rumoured that this version was incorrectly included by Polydor, and unavailable anywhere else!

Also, on the original 1978 Ireland Polydor record label, it lists 'Hong Kong Garden' by Siouxsie & the Banshees as track 1 side A. This may have been a rights issue or a misprint (although it was a Polydor single) and the song pulled at the last minute, as all copies, as far as I'm aware, begin with 'Ça Plane Pour Moi' by Plastic Bertrand.

For this 2022 expanded edition, I have added 'Hong Kong Garden', along with another 7 bonus tracks by artists featured on the original album, all released in 1977 and 1978, making a 28 track album with a new CD running time of 79:21.

20 of Another Kind Volume Two (Polydor POLX 1 UK) (2022 Remastered Expanded Edition) (1979)

Follow up volume containing 20 more classic Punk and New Wave tracks, released by Polydor in 1979. A few very hard to find tracks in their original UK 7" 45 single versions are featured. 

A number have been released on CD, but either in later recorded album versions, or earlier demos, but not the original 7" 45 single versions.

For this 2022 expanded edition, I have added another 6 bonus tracks by artists featured on the original album, all released in 1978 and 1979, making a 26 track album with a new CD running time of 80:19.

We Do 'em Our Way (Music for Pleasure MFP 50481 UK) (2022 Remastered Expanded Edition) (1980)

A great compilation of Punk and New Wave cover versions of classic songs, released by Music for Pleasure in 1980.

You would have automatically assumed by the title of the album that the Sex Pistols cover of 'My Way' was included. It was not.

Anyway, for this 2022 expanded edition 'My Way' has been now added along with another 14 bonus cover versions, all released before and during 1980,

the original album year of release, making a 27 track CD with a new running time of 78:57.

This album was originally released by K-tel in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, and Scandinavia in 1979. They each had different tracklistings.
